Princess Lleuada is the "adoptive" human daughter of Queen Blodwyn and King Arawn.

Background[]

Lleuada was born to the farmer, Rhys ap Ioan, and his wife, Alis, circa 494 in the principality of Dyfed. She was, however, kidnapped by the Fae as an infant and replaced with a changeling. She was raised from that point on by the King and Queen of Annwn.

The reasons for her "adoption" were never truthfully revealed to her as she was growing up. She was falsely told that her parents abandoned her and the Faeries took her in by the kindness of their hearts.

Lleuada and the Thief[]

After returning from a hunting trip with her father, Lleuada runs into Sir Cadwgawn while he is stealing her father's gold. She attempts to stop him and is ultimately unsuccessful. After Cadwgawn gets away she is afraid to tell Arawn of the incident for fear of his anger. He eventually finds from a servant that the gold is gone and that Lleuada tried to chase the theif down.

Angered that Lleuada did not tell him, Arawn sends his advisor, Indrydd, to fetch her. Lleuada tries to explain to Arawn that she was afraid to tell him, but he is unmoved by her excuse and sentences her to a week in the dilapidated East Wing as punishment.

Gwyn ap Nudd[]

While Lleuada is spending her punishment in the East Wing, she is awakened one morning by a racous clamouring. She discovers that it is her father's serfs being led in protest by her father's political enemy, Gwyn ap Nudd. One of her father's advisors, Llew Da, calls her father to the East Wing where Arawn has an argument with Nudd, yelling down at him from the balcony. Nudd's consort, Rhodysa, joins the argument, ultimately revealing to an unknowing Lleuada that she used to be Arawn's wife before Blodwyn. Nudd and Rhodysa are eventually chased away from the palace by Arawn's guard. Lleuada's curiosity in her father's ex-wife leads her to eventually discover the truth about who she really is.
